Dear CoVid19 Country Lock-down diary - Day 5

Image
Dear CoVid19 Country Lock-down diary - Day 5 I woke up reflective but relatively OK with the state of things. I enjoyed some music, which as you know, for me is another of my love languages.. and universally a tool known to connect people. I have been consuming the news and updates at intervals instead of listening attentively throughout the day. It's just easier for me this way. I get to understand where things are without becoming too overcome or overwhelmed by the status of this virus with its gross impact.  I got to do a few things and, while I am clear about whose opinions I listen to these days, I then received a call from a significant person whose opinion matters to me. Post the conversation I felt, what if -   even with money and access, just what if we no longer have supplies because of global shortages? What if "life" decides money isn't the deciding factor any longer? Anyway all these questions. Let's just pray and work howe

Dear CoVid19 Country Lock-down diary - Day 3

Dear CoVid19 Country Lock-down diary -Day 3 All in all it's been a really good day. Late yesterday I came to some firm decisions, based on where society is and which I briefly discussed with my colleague Jimmy a few weeks ago, which now I will pursue over a period of time with necessary transitions.  But for now, it's all business mindset as normal. I was a bit worried by a headline of Africa being the last in line on global supplies of ventilators. It momentarily took my breath away. But then I remembered what we are pretty used to as a Nation and as a Continent. We are good at improvising and with that we should find a way to innovate till things ease up all round and we're  no longer compromised.  I also took a long part of today to think about specific things. You'll recall me seeing these days as an opportune time for working on ourselves till we're let out of self isolation. I've suggested the same to  people I truly value and care about. I

Dear CoVid19 Country Lock-down diary - Day 2

Dear CoVid19 Country Lock-down diary - Day 2 Today I awoke to the harsh reality of things. I didn't feel, perhaps like I subtly did yesterday, that this was simply our turn to join in on a global, borderless and disregarding pandemic. I got up reminded of my beliefs spiritually and make no mistake, while I am vocal of my beliefs, I hold no polarized views on religious choices. That's the stuff that generally causes all the issues in the world so I am not about to engage any more triggers. Further, how does any of that matter in a time when every humanbeing is being challenged personally and is equally called to play a part in this fight to save humanity? We're all on the same side for once. Such a high price to pay to get us to this point and perhaps that's where some of my anger felt today stems from. Today I felt a few things but mostly I felt intense anger combined with hurt by the reality of things. This lock-down together with all the consequences had

Dear CoVid19 Country Lock-down diary - Day 1

Dear CoVid19 Country Lock-down diary - Day 1 Today is, well, like any other day. A bit restricted, a bit challenged, a bit busy. All in all it's been eerily silent. As if you could feel the silence, concern and sadness. Or as if you could feel the prayer. Today is officially South Africa's National Day of Prayer which for me, is more important than any other wants for this day even if I, like you too, am challenged by my lack in humanly wants and needs. At some stage the "flesh" has to take the backseat. I started with some remote work, knew the date to be significant for various reasons and proceeded to work interested in no more or less than my work at hand. Something came to mind and I read a bit of Elanor Roosevelt's life. A brief overview. The strange thing is, ordinarily I'd love to be indoors and with no desire to be out but today, today was subtly rebellious on my part. I would not break the rules for any reason since I value the well-being

21 days of lock-down to Discover

First Point of order. No I am not sitting on a mountain of money. I am the owner of a start-up and am awaiting payment on invoices/investments since late January 2020. It's been a fight. I started a business in a technical recession a few years ago which was challenging even before the virus. Now with this pandemic, It just got more challenging. And so like you,  I too am in the red and very concerned on a bunch of business and livelihood related things. But, I am also of the opinion that many great things were discovered in some of the hardest times throughout history. No one who arrived anywhere significant did so without a fight or a struggle. Some even found their possibilities in physically the hardest circumstances to survive. And yet they did. So - There's something pretty remarkable about struggle. It makes us truly tap into the power of our being. The stuff that's greater within us. And so these 21 days of a country lock-down, with all the challenges it pr

A Virus, a Friend and a Vision

The last weeks we've seen the world slowly but then extremely rapidly unfold into a great sense of urgency. History will have nations remembered for various reasons. For some, it's in their story of stigma and social discrimination. For others it's the tragedy in the numbers who lost their lives. And for those not yet affected, please do not be remembered for your complacency in taking Global cues and warnings on preventions or interventions. What's most noteworthy for me is that whether we like it or not, whether we are in leadership roles or not, whether we sit on the same side politically or not, whether we are established economies or not - this Corona Virus - Covid 19 SIMPLY DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE AND THAT'S ABOUT THE ONLY THING I LIKE ABOUT IT. It will come after you professional athlete and yes you too Presidential spouse...and man on the street you ...Oh, most sadly so,  it's you who's so susceptible. And it all can be limited with something as
